Process

For an out of town patient the process from evaluation, pain generator identification, surgery and discharge can occur in as little as 5 days.

DAY ONE, STEP ONE:

You are evaluated by Jose Rodriguez, M.D., imaging studies are reviewed and the plan for Pain Generator Identification is detailed. If no additional imaging is required, STEP TWO can occur on DAY TWO. If not, whenever possible, additional imaging will be performed the same day. Lab work and EKG will also be performed.

DAY TWO, STEP TWO:

You may not eat or drink anything after midnight. You will arrive at the surgery center where you will undergo a series of blocks with a view to identify your source of pain (The Pain Generator). You will be fully communicative during the sequential blocks. You will meet again with Jose Rodriguez, M.D. and discuss the results of your Diagnostic blocks, whether or not the pain generator was identified, whether or not you are a candidate of a minimally invasive laser procedure, the type of procedure, the likelihood of benefit and the risks and complications of the procedure. You will then return back to your home or hotel with the person who drove you to the center.

DAY THREE, STEP THREE:

You will come back to the surgery center having had nothing to eat after midnight. You will undergo the recommended operation and return home or to your hotel with the person who drove you to the center.

DAY FOUR, STEP FOUR:

You will be seen in the office by Jose Rodriguez, M.D. to evaluate your response to the surgery. Sometimes it may be necessary to have an epidural steroid injection after the surgery if you are having some residual discomfort. This will be performed at this same visit.

DAY FIVE, STEP FIVE:

If you do not have any post-operative complaints you will be released to return home.
